National Park and Wildlife Boubandjida

Boubandjida National Park, created after Cameroon's independence in 1960, was once the hunting grounds of "Lamido" Bouba N'Djidah, Sultan of Rey Bouba, which it takes its name.

It can sometimes be written Bouba N'Djiddah, Bouba N'Djidah, Bouba Bouba N'Djidda or N'Djida.

Backed by Chad at its northern border, it is in the Mayo Rey, 150 km southeast of Garoua, capital of the Region of North Cameroon. He leans his limit by North Park Nartional Chad Sena Oura, created in 2010, with whom he will eventually form the Binational Park Sena Boubandjida Oura.

Desert shrub Sudano Guinean zone of 220,000 hectares landscapes and varied landscape interspersed with numerous seasonal rivers, the "mayos" has retained a wealth of wildlife and a remarkable diversity.

Enhanced by a few mountain ranges, the bush has something very different, alternating areas of dense cover, forest galleries and open spaces. Water is abundant in all seasons.

Ecosystem that is ideal for quiet and discrete approaches for large animals, this park is also sheltered from mass tourism. The density of vegetation promotes close observation of abundant wildlife and peaceful.

The park has experienced during his half century of mixed fortunes. After years of near abandonment he has in recent years a real renaissance. The structure recently renovated home, a network of 500 km of trails maintained vision, serious efforts were made to protect this wildlife sanctuary acclaim.

National Park is home Boubandjida all species unique to this region of Central Africa. It is especially the National Park offering the best conditions for observations of Giant Eland, the largest, most majestic but also the fiercest of African antelopes. This little-known antelope is particularly abundant here.

Other species, elephants, giraffes, lions, leopards, eland, buffalo, roan antelope, hartebeest, hartebeest, waterbuck Buffon, waterbuck waterbuck, reedbuck, bushbuck, duiker, red duiker sided, hyenas, baboons, vervet, patas , colobus monkeys, aardvark, serval, warthog ... are also very strongly represented.

Birds
For bird watchers several hundred species of birds alone provide the reason for the trip.
Among them the largest as jabiru or marabout, the giant hornbill Abyssinian, raptors and vultures, ospreys, jugglers, martial vultures and bald, but also bright Abyssinian Rollers, bee-eaters green and scarlet, or the tiny sunbird to 8 colors and rare Amarante of Reichenow ...
